Square Mile Coffee Roasters – Residency March 2015

Hi everyone,

PCP is really excited to be welcoming Square Mile Coffee Roasters for our first residency of 2015. When it comes to coffee, these guys are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable worldwide. Whether it’s sourcing and importing top quality coffee, or roasting and brewing it to its best potential, or even consulting to improve and create better brewing equipment, these guys know about it and are great at it.

If you aren’t familiar with them, here’s a bit from their website…

“Square Mile Coffee Roasters is a multi award winning coffee roasting company based in East London.  It was founded by two people with a collective of 19 years of experience in the coffee industry, spanning from barista work, machinery support and coffee training to import, cupping and roasting and has grown to a team of 12 talented coffee professionals , with a wealth of experience and passion for what we do.

We want to make London famous for good coffee.  We source, buy, import, roast and deliver the best coffee we can get a hold of, and never stop asking ourselves how we can make it even better.  We’re working to build a London coffee culture and do our best to contribute to the global scene”.

Sound interesting? We think so. Which is why we’ve got them taking over PCP for one week from March 16 to 22. This means they’ll be bringing their coffees and brewing and serving them how they would at home. It’ll be a little piece of Square Mile Coffee Roasters right here in Surry Hills. Awesome.

On top of that, while they’re here, we’ve roped them into doing some workshops and events so we can really understand what makes Square Mile tick. Some of the events will be more casual and open to anyone with an interest in coffee, but there’ll also be some more in-depth workshops that, for the coffee professional or anyone super interested about coffee, are not be missed.

Here’s just a brief rundown of these events…

Drinks. We’ll call it “drinks” because it’ll be pretty casual. But it’ll also be interesting. On Tuesday, the guys will host a night for anyone interested in hearing about the story of Square Mile and what makes them unique. They’ll talk a bit, and there’ll also be time for some questions. If you work in coffee, drink a lot of coffee, want to learn a bit about quality coffee, or are just interested in finding out about Square Mile Coffee Roasters, please join us for a drink and chat.

NB For those interested in going a bit deeper into the coffee rabbit hole, take a look at the “workshop”.

Cupping. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3pm, the guys will run a cupping session and discussion of Square Mile Coffees. It’ll be a great opportunity to talk roasting styles and coffee selection and ask questions. Attendees will also take home a bag of Square Mile Coffee.

Roasting. (*edited*) Tuesday, March 17. One of our guests from Square Mile Coffee Roasters is the Head Roaster, Sang Ho Park. Sang Ho has many years experience at Square Mile and his role includes roast profiling and quality control. Sang Ho will be running 3x 1.5hr small group practical roasting sessions at Reuben Hills.

Workshop. The main event for the coffee professional. Thursday, March 19. The purpose here is to share a detailed look into the approach of Square Mile Coffee Roasters. A 3hr session will analyse such things as the Square Mile philosophy, quality control and sensory perception. It is a chance to see into how this company has become renowned for it’s quality and continues to be regarded as one of the best. It is a not to be missed for the barista, the roaster, the business owner, and anyone who wants to know.
